        Vernal Pool Exploration

        EVENT UPDATE: The Vernal Pool Exploration event is still scheduled for Friday 3/17. Despite the snow we received Tuesday, the forecast shows warm temperatures Thursday with rain Thursday night, which should work in our favor for the salamanders and fairy shrimp to be active Friday evening.

        Join us for an evening exploration of salamanders, frogs, and fairy shrimp during their brief above-ground appearance this spring! The Dunkle farm is host to an active vernal pool, providing excitement and wonder for all ages.

        Staff from FSF and the Watershed Conservation Research Center at Allegheny College will guide the nighttime excursion.

        Please plan for a half mile walk through a soggy field to access the vernal pool. Waterproof footwear is recommended. Please bring a flashlight and/or headlamp.
