Building community during the “Loving the Land Through Working Forests” weekend
September 25, 2024

This week, members of the DCNR’s Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps teamed up with FSF staff and volunteers to make improvements at the Northwestern REC Community Forest. The team grubbed and mulched a walking trail loop off of Wenner Drive, built a welcome kiosk, installed signage, and built bat boxes. Many thanks go out to the PAOC crew, local bat expert Terry Lobdell for sharing his wealth of bat box design knowledge and leading the construction process, Northwestern REC for setting a utility pole for the bat boxes and sharing a bucket truck, David Yasenchack for his design and construction work on the kiosk, and Frank Zalik, Pat Maloney, Guy Dunkle, and Bennett Gould for their hard work. The property is looking great ahead of this Saturday’s Loving the Land Through Working Forests conference!
